Hand-operated Pump by Companion®
A manually operated pump that provides convenient water flow without electricity.
With smooth operation and a self-priming feature, the Companion hand sink pump provides a consistent flow of water with minimal effort. Using a manual pump is as simple as it gets, and is a great option when you have kids along as the only time water is flowing is when the pump is being actioned, so there's minimal water waste, and no chance of the pump being left flowing.
This pump is designed to work with a 32mm mounting hole and is a perfect fit for the Jerry Max Screw Cap. Simply install the pump shaft into the hole in the centre of the Jerry Max screw cap and attach the nut to the underside of the cap and thread until the pump is firmly secured. Be careful not to over-tighten the thread as this can cause damage.
Once the pump is installed in the cap, you can attach a suitable length of hose (not supplied) to the pump and screw the assembly onto your jerry can. Again, be sure not to over-tighten the assembly on the thread to avoid damage. The length of hose required will vary depending on the size of your jerry can but ideally the hose just reaches the bottom of the jerry can to allow for maximum range in water pickup.
PRO TIP: The Companion hand-operated pump has a nice tight thread so you can leave the thread ever so lightly loose on the cap so that it's easy to rotate the pump as needed when in use on the can.
Venting your jerry can:
When the pump is installed and operating, it's very important that air is allowed to enter the can to replace the extracted water volume, otherwise the can will want to crush, the water will become increasingly difficult to pump, and damage to your pump and/or jerry can can occur. Many jerry cans (such as the ProQuip wide mouth 18L and 22L models) feature a separate vent cap that should be unscrewed when operating the pump to allow this. If your jerry can does not have a venting feature, then you can simple loosen the Jerry Max screw cap slightly on the can thread to allow air to pass back into the can between the jerry thread and the screw cap's silicone seal. Only a slight loosening is required to allow the air to pass through, while still maintaining a solid mounting on the thread for the physical action of the pump.
