Jerry Max Care and Use Instructions

Jerry Max® jerry can adapters are designed to fit water jerry cans with a wide-mouth (58mm) cap thread. Typically if you look under the cap of your can it will likely say "58mm".

Installation Instructions - Manual pumps

The Jerry Max® 58mm screw cap will allow fitment of hand-operated water pumps that are designed for a 32mm mounting hole.†

(1) Attach a hand pump to Jerry Max screw cap using the nut supplied with your pump.

(2) It is recommended to keep the nut slightly loose to allow you to rotate the pump spout to the optimum location when installed on the jerry can.

(3) Attach a suitable length hose to your pump and screw complete assembly on to jerry can. We've found that using a hose that is slightly longer than the distance from the bottom of the pump to the bottom of the can is best, as the small amount of tension on the bottom of the hose tens to keep the pickup opening from plugging against the can wall and allows for the maximum amount of water to be removed from the can.

Some pumps have a nut that self tightens on the thread which helps prevent the nut from loosening itself when the pump is rotated, while other pumps may require a second 'lock nut' be attached to the pump thread to prevent unwanted loosening during operation.

IMPORTANT: If your jerry can does not have a breather cap/hole, you should loosen the Jerry Max cap assembly slightly when in use to allow the jerry can to breathe. Otherwise pumping will become diffIcult and damage to your pump may occur.

†Some pumps may require trimming the pump attachment nut to fit into the jerry can neck. For example, Breha® hand pumps.

Installation Instructions - Electric pumps

The upper flexible pump sleeve is designed to fit electric pumps of the type designed for water cooler style bottles with a friction fit interface.

(1) To install an electric pump, snap the flexible Jerry Max upper sleeve onto the upper locator ring of the Jerry Max screw cap, then screw the assembly onto your jerry can.

(2) Remove the tethered dust plug from the centre of the flexible upper by pulling upwards on the tab.

(3) Attach the hose supplied with your pump to the water inlet on the pump, and then insert the hose down into the can through the centre hole of the Jerry Max assembly.

(4) Slip your pump down over the flexible upper until it grips firmly.

Handy Tip: When packing up camp, you can remove the pump and Jerry Max assembly as one unit if you wish, or disassemble and stow separately.

(5) When pump is not installed (e.g. when the pump is being charged) re-insert the tethered dust plug to limit exposure of jerry can contents to the elements.

Be sure to remove pump and Jerry Max assembly before transport or storage.

Carefully observe the pump manufacturers directions for operation and care, including exposure to the elements etc.

Installation Instructions - Quick Connect Core

The Jerry Max Screw Cap with Quick Connect Core will typically come pre-assembled and ready for installation onto your can. If not, the quick connect core simply inserts into the centre of the Screw Cap (hose first and then the main body) and is attached using the M32 plastic nut that comes with the kit. Then just attach the silicone hose to the barbed fitting on the bottom of the quick connect core and screw the cap down onto your jerry can, being careful not to over-tighten the screw cap.

Trimming the hose length to suit your can: The quick connect kit comes with an approximate 500mm length of silicone hose. The should be trimmed as required to match the distance from the location in the cap down to as close to the bottom of the can as possible. If the hose is too short, then the pump will not be able to access water from the whole can. If the hose is too long, it may curl up and the pick up end may pop back up above the waterline and suck in air instead of water. It is also possible at times that the hose end may suction on to the inside of the can and block the pumping action. We generally recommend cutting the hose so that it will sit just above the base of the can to prevent this from happening.

Remove the TPU dust cap (if not done already) and simply insert the male end of your pump hose CPC fitting into the female CPC fitting on the quick connect core until you hear the clicking sound of the release button. The hose assembly is now connected and the valve inside the CPC fitting will open and allow water to pass from inside the jerry can to the pump.

To disconnect the pump hose, simply press the light blue button on the side of the CPC fitting by pushing in the direction of the centre of the fitting, and the retaining collar on the pump hose will be released. You can then pull back gently on the pump hose to release it and the valve on the CPC fitting will close.

It is recommended to place the dust cap on the Quick Connect fitting whenever it is not in use to prevent exposure to the elements.

Handy Tip: On the bottom of the hose attached to the quick connect core will be a male barbed fitting that connects with female end of the valved quick-connect fitting on the core. This is supplied in case your intended pump does not come with a compatible male quick connect fitting. Note that the Dometic and Companion pumps we sell already come supplied with a compatible male fitting, so this can remain affixed to the end of the silicone tube and kept as a spare..

(5) When the quick connect adapter is not being used (e.g. when the pump is being charged) we recommend to attached the TPU dust cap to limit exposure of jerry can contents to the elements.

Be sure to remove pump and Jerry Max assembly before transport or storage.

Carefully observe the pump manufacturers directions for operation and care, including exposure to the elements etc.

IMPORTANT: If your jerry can does not have a breather cap/hole, you should loosen the Jerry Max cap assembly slightly when in use to allow the jerry can to breathe. Otherwise pumping will become diffIcult and damage to your pump may occur.

Disassembly for cleaning: The main body assembly includes a large o-ring that is fitted between, and seals between the core body and the screw cap. There is also a small silicone o-ring located on the upper stem of the CPC fitting (hidden inside the insert). If you wish to remove the CPC fitting from the main core body, place it on a semi-hard surface (such as on a towel placed on a table) and press firmly straight down on the barbed fitting (after removing the silicone hose if attached). This will push the barbed fitting back up past the 'snap point' in the insert core.

DO NOT OVER-TIGHTEN THE CAP OR DAMAGE MAY OCCUR.
